What is a Cashu mint?

Cashu is open-source Chaumian e-cash for Bitcoin. You deposit sats over Lightning and receive e-cash tokens — bearer claims the mint redeems back to Lightning on demand. Tokens are private (the mint can't see who holds or spends them, thanks to blind signatures) and transfer instantly and feelessly between wallets.

This mint is a non-commercial, not-for-profit experiment — a hobbyist tech demonstration to explore and showcase Cashu. It is not a service, product, or business, charges no fees, makes no profit, and is offered with no warranty of any kind.
A Cashu mint is custodial: this mint holds the Lightning balance backing your e-cash. Your tokens are an IOU redeemable from us — not your keys to the backing funds.
Only deposit trivial amounts you are entirely comfortable losing (pocket change). It runs at deliberately microscopic scale, may break, and may be taken offline at any time without notice — sweep tokens back to your own Lightning wallet when you're done.
Treat e-cash like cash in your pocket. By using the mint you accept that it is experimental and entirely at your own risk, and our terms of service.
